Ancient Parish [25]
Included the chapel & borough of Bewdley. Bewdley was originally an extra-parochial place, sometimes considered in Staffordshire in the 15th century, although usually considered in Worcestershire. Its status in Worcestershire was confirmed by statute 1543. In the reign of Henry VI it was made a chapel of Ribbesford Ancient Parish. It was a separate Civil Parish in 1866 and a separate Ecclesiastical Parish in 1853. Ribbesford was abolished ecclesiastically in 1940 to help create Ribbesford with Bewdley Ecclesiastical Parish. [25]

An extract from the Topographical Dictionary of England 1831 by Samuel Lewis:
RIBBESFORD, a parish in the lower division of the hundred of DODDINGTREE, county of WORCESTER, ¾ of a mile (S.) from Bewdley, containing, with the borough of Bewdley, 3798 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Worcester, rated in the king's books at £27. 19. 2., and in the patronage of the Rev. Edward Winnington Ingram. The church, dedicated to St. Leonard, is an ancient and curious structure, in a retired situation, surrounded by wooded heights, which environ the windings of the Severn. Coal exists in the parish, but it is not worked. A weekly market and a fair on St. Margaret's day, were granted by Edward I.
